Frequently Asked Questions

Laser Hair Reduction

Laser hair reduction (commonly referred to as laser hair removal)

Is laser hair reduction right for you?

The ideal candidate for this procedure has hair that is darker than their skin color.  Here, we utilize the Candela GentleMax Pro Plus Series, which is the latest technology available for hair removal and is FDA-approved to treat all skin types. The laser emits a timed pulse of laser energy passing through the skin and absorbed by the melanin in the hair follicle. It is then converted to heat energy, which is designed to destroy the hair follicle so it cannot grow back.

Why do I need a series of treatments?

Laser energy has its greatest effect on hair in the growing stage, as the dormant hairs become active.

- About 6 weeks after a treatment, some new hair growth will be observed

-Approximately 4-8 treatments, every 4-12 weeks (depending on the area being treated) will be necessary for satisfactory, long-lasting results.

Do the treatments hurt?

The GentleMax Pro Plus Series utilizes a Dynamic Cooling Device, which is a quick spray of cryogen that cools the skin. Right after the cryogen hits the skin and cools, the laser is pulsed. A pulse of laser light feels like a small pinch or slight sting similar to the snap of a rubber band against the skin.

Is laser hair reduction permanent?

To date, no laser equipment has been approved by the FDA for permanent hair removal. However, the FDA has approved the GentleMax Pro Plus Series, with permanent hair reduction.  Laser hair removal effectively eliminates most of the hair with deep pigment and hair that is in an active growth phase.

More about the equipment we use:

The Candela Gentlemax PRO brings together the two wavelengths of the Gentle YAG and the GentleLASE into one unit. The dual wavelengths consist of the fast and effective Alexandrite laser (755nm) and the YAG laser (1064nm). The Candela Gentlemax PRO can provide treatments to all skin types 1-6.

Various treatments we administer with the Gentle Max pro:

  • Pigmented Lesions

  • Sun-damaged skin

  • Freckles

  • Telangiectasia

  • Beard Bumps

  • Hair reduction
