Scarring (Surgical and Trauma)

Scarring, whether from surgical procedures or traumatic injuries, occurs when the skin heals after an injury, surgery, or other trauma. When the skin is damaged, the body produces collagen to repair the affected area, which can result in scars that vary in appearance, size, and texture. Surgical scars are often linear and can be more uniform, while scars from trauma may be irregular and raised (hypertrophic or keloid scars) or flat and discolored. Factors such as genetics, location of the scar, and the healing process can influence the final appearance. Various treatments, including laser therapy and microneedling, can help reduce the visibility of scars and improve skin texture.
