Is Laser Hair Removal right for you?

The ideal candidate for this procedure has hair that is darker than his/her skin color.  Here, we utilize the Candela GentleYAG laser, which is the latest technology available for hair removal and is FDA approved to treat all skin types, specializing in dark and tanned skin. The laser emits a timed pulse of laser energy passing through the skin and absorbed by the melanin in the hair follicle. It is then converted to heat energy, which is designed to destroy the hair follicle so it cannot grow back.

Why do I need a series of treatments?

Laser energy has its greatest effect on hair in the growing stage, as the dormant hairs become active, on average about 6 weeks after a treatment, some new hair growth will be observed. Approximately 4-8 treatments every 4-6 weeks will be necessary for satisfactory, long-lasting results.

Do the treatments hurt?

The GentleYAG laser utilizes a Dynamic Cooling Device, which is a quick spray of cryogen which cools the skin. Right after the cryogen hits the skin and cools it the laser is fired. A pulse of laser light feels like a small pinch or slight sting similar to the snap of a rubber-band against skin. Primarily because of the Dynamic Cooling Device, no local anesthesia is required and the procedure is well tolerated.

Is laser hair removal permanent?

To date, there is no laser equipment that has been approved by the FDA for permanent hair removal. However, the FDA has approved the GentleYAG with permanent hair reduction.  Laser hair removal effectively eliminates most of the hair with deep pigment, and hair that is in an active growth phase.
